Victory
at Stirling Bridge

8th
Scot Jig
by Jesse and Evan Murch |
The
Death of Death
by Jesse Murch |
|
The Battle of Stirling Bridge was the first major victory in the First War for Scottish Independence in 1297. William Wallace and Andrew Morney drew the forces of King Edward over the small bridge, and used it to cut them off from the rest of their forces. Though outnumbered, they slaughtered the English troops and secured their freedom. The battle was nothing like the fictionalized account in Braveheart, but was every bit as a miraculous. |
An
original Scottish jig. So-named because we're about one-eighth Scottish
(and we've put every ounce of that blood in this tune!). Performed live

Soli
Deo Gloria
by Evan Murch |
Sola
Gratia
by Evan Murch |
|
This
song was written collaberatively by all the Murch siblings. Each person
wrote their own part to this song. The name comes from the huge storm
in the Mediterranean that lasted two weeks, and shipwrecked the Apostle
Paul as he was being transported to Rome in 59 AD for trial before Nero.
It's a stormy piece. |
Soli
Deo Gloria is Latin for "for the glory of God alone, one of the
"five solas" of the Protestant Reformation and of the Scottish Covenanters.
It reflects the truth that everything that we do while on earth is for
God's glory alone, and not our own.
Performed live at Baine's Books & Coffee, Appomattox, Virginia. |
Sola
Gratia is Latin for "by grace alone", one of the "five solas"
of the Protestant Reformation and of the Scottish Covenanters. It reflects
the truth that salvation and eternal life are only available by the
unearned favor of God alone, and not by any goodness or good works of
our own. Performed live at Baine's Books & Coffee in historic Appomattox,
Virginia.

Evan & Hannah Murch composed this un-named jig. Ben threatened that he would pick a name out of a biological dictionary if they delayed in naming it. They delayed. So, true to his threat, Ben named it "The Orthognathous Jig". This word means "Having a jaw that does not project or recede, so that the facial profile is nearly vertical". The definition has prevailed and we have dubbed this tune The Straight Jaw Jig! Performed live at Baine's Books & Coffee in historic downtown Appomattox, Virginia |
